About The Artist

Many people like to know something about the artist, so here is a little bit about me. Born in Washington, D. C., I spent my earliest years in the city. Country life was mysterious and intriguing. I remember vividly the exciting sights and sounds and smells that filled my senses as a child when I came to visit my grandparents in, what was then, rural North Sudbury, Massachusetts. The stone walls and horses; the farms and barns; the old colonial homes and quiet woodland places; these create some of the magnificent poetic images that I love to paint. From those earliest years I was struck by the silent dignity of the endless stone walls that make such a beautiful patchwork of New England.

Painting was a hobby for me for nearly 50 years until just a few years ago when I was irresistibly drawn into it as a professional adventure. My previous career, built upon a doctorate in psychology and training in hypnosis, focused on treating individuals and couples in a clinical setting. During the course of these years I was a student of the late prominent New Hampshire artist, Calvin Libby and then later a student at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Currently I am a private student of Maine Coast painter, Stan Moeller. Recently I have been awarded acceptance into the Oil Painters of America as associate member.

Painting for me is a deeply emotional experience that is beyond anything that I have been able to describe in words. My painting is a record of my experience. Most of my work begins on site, en plein air, and is then later completed in my studio. As I begin a painting it is always an experiment that may or may not come together and express the emotional experience that captured me in the first place. But when it does, it is a beautiful mystery that stirs my soul every time that I look at it. This is also what I want to share with others.
